Alan Wolfson-Urban Miniaturist

Alan Wolfson creates miniature detailed replicas of urban places that feel like diorama time capsules.  His latest work, "Katz's Deli/Closing Time"- 2012 is eerily specific in it's keen detail.

Walter Potter's-Dead and Adorable-Dioramas

Walter Potter was a Victorian taxidermist with a penchant for the cute and bizarre.  Stuffing animals and placing them in human adventures, his work embodies the spirit of Victorian Times.
The beautiful death-captured in kitsch.

The Curious Libraries of Marc Giai-Miniet

They look like libraries one has seen in a dream or would imagine in an H.G. Well's novel.  French artist Marc Giai-Miniet makes these incredible diorama boxes that combine the surreal with the real-industry with imagination-and the enlightened with the base.

Japanese Paper Diorama-Tatebanko

Do a quick search on Tatebanko and most results say it is the lost or forgotten Japanese Art of making paper dioramas or scenic perspectives.  But thanks to the internet it is now found again!  The only thing that seems to be lost... is exactly where to buy a Tatebanko kit...

Luckily Amazon is now selling Tatebanko, if you can't quite figure out how to purchase them from Japan, or you could try Architects Gifts Plus, though they are frequently sold out, maybe you will just be inspired after watching this great video-to design your very own Tatebanko.

Julia Callon-Passivity and Madness in Miniature

Julia Callon is a photographer working with miniatures.  The Toronto based artist takes a doll house aesthetic and turns it on its head.  The photos below are from her Houses of Fiction Series, which was inspired by 19th Century women writers.  Working with the ideas of confinement, a "woman's place" and the dichotomy of passivity and madness, Callon's photographs evoke a familiar charm before erupting before our eyes.  You can read more about her work, which is also available for purchase on Wondereur.
